Song Review: Munene wa Ita by Kanyeki

Kenyan hard rock powerhouse, Kanyeki Band are back at it again. The Kanyeki Band are no strangers to the alternative rock world as their presence has been felt since their formation. The Kanyeki band, the 2016 AFRIMA awards nominees and the only active Christian hard rock band in Kenya have once again geared up to release a single Munene Wa Ita Ft. Skylar.

The single follows the groups debut songs Murata and Ndingihota Gutariria. Munene Wa Ita, packs some serious punch, proving to be a 3.5 minutes’ romp of power, passion and most importantly, riffs! Kanyeki Band are often pegged as one of the most hardworking hard rock bands in the Southern Saharan Africa and Munene Wa Ita is certainly enough proof to back up this claim.

Musically speaking, the production here is absolutely wonderful. It’s polished and clear, yet still retains the rough edge that hard / alternative rock always should. The track is extremely amazing. Heavy guitar riffs, strong clean vocals by both Kanyeki and Skylar which are pretty solid. Highlight of the track includes the chorus that draws you into the heart of the Munene Wa Ita with its mixing of melodic vocals of the duets.

Lyrically, Munene Wa Ita predominantly focuses upon turning to God who is the King of Kings, protector and provider for all our wishes. The track is spiritually uplifting.

If you like alternative / hard rock, this is worth a listen or two. It is quite emotional and spiritually uplifting but also it is fairly entertaining and packs a decent punch. I recommend this track to all rock fans, those who are prepared to hear something that’s uplifting. The track isn’t musically complex but beautiful and definitely one of the best rock music that I have heard since the beginning of the year.
